Leadership
At Barkai, we believe in a whole child approach to learning. In particular, we understand that more than we teach content, we teach people. To that end, focus is placed on social-emotional learning and life skills. Our leadership course, which meets multiple times a week, tackles subjects like time management, peer pressure, collaboration and conflict resolution, substance abuse, personal finance, Israel advocacy, civics, public speaking and communication, digital literacy, relationship building and other important life skills. We have partnered with the Lifnay V'Lifnim program to work on pulling life lessons out of sources learned and utilizing their Leb Hashabua initiative to get students comfortable with dealing with problems and not being afraid to seek guidance. We have also partnered with the Character Lab initiative, through which we work on character building, discussing things like grit, resilience and goal setting.
It is an integral part of Barkai's mission to graduate students who are confident, self aware, empathetic, resilient and not afraid to work hard and learn from their mistakes. As we build students' IQ, we also build their EQ.
